You know that you should brush your teeth at least twice a day, once in the morning and once before bed. However, do you know how to choose a toothbrush and how often to replace it? Dr. Gina Kaiser and Nicole Malony and our team are happy to give you advice about toothbrushes.

Choosing a Toothbrush

Choose a shape and size of toothbrush that feels comfortable to you. The head of the toothbrush should be able to easily reach all areas of your mouth. We recommend that you choose a toothbrush with soft bristles instead of choosing one with medium or hard bristles. Soft toothbrush bristles are easier on the tooth enamel and on the gums. You may want to consider a powered toothbrush for your dental hygiene needs. However, if you brush correctly, a manual toothbrush will serve you just as faithfully.

Replacing Your Toothbrush

Replacing your toothbrush is very important to the health of your smile. You should get a new toothbrush every three months or when your old toothbrush begins to show wear—whichever comes first. Our dentist in Berryville, Virginia, also recommends that you replace your toothbrush after you’ve had a cold since the bristles can collect the germs.

We invite you to contact Berryville Dental Associates at 540-955-0270 today to learn more and to schedule your next visit. We look forward to seeing you in our office!
